Introduction

Some 2005 - 2010 model year Avalon vehicles may exhibit a condition where the navigation door will not close due to the navigation control pad detaching from the navigation control pad door. The following procedure has been developed to correct this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.

Repair Procedure





1. Remove the shift lever knob by turning it counterclockwise.





2. Remove the position indicator housing assembly by disengaging the 4 claws.





3. Remove the seat heater switch by disengaging the 4 claws and disconnecting the electrical connector.





4. Remove the lower console sub-assembly by disengaging the 10 clips and pulling up on the lower console sub-assembly.





5. Remove the navigation control pad connector from the bracket and disconnect.





6. Locate and remove the four (4) screws holding the navigation control pad door to the lower console sub-assembly.





7. Remove the navigation control pad door from the lower console sub-assembly by inserting a screwdriver in between the tab on the navigation control pad door and the lower console sub-assembly as indicated in Figure 7.

NOTE

This procedure may need to be repeated on the LH side.





8. Insert a pick between the navigation control pad and the black plastic piece of the navigation control pad door.

9. Pry the black plastic piece of the navigation control pad door away from the navigation control pad to release the clip.





10. Use a screwdriver to pry the tab from the navigation control pad clip.

NOTE

Repeat steps 8 - 10 on the other side of the navigation control pad until both sides are loose.





11. Remove the navigation control pad from the navigation control pad door.





12. Insert the navigation control pad into the NEW navigation control pad door (PIN 58802-07063) by lining up the slider on the control pad with the groove in the door.





13. Push the navigation control pad into the navigation control pad door until the top of the door tab is even with the silver surface.





14. Confirm that the navigation control pad is fitted into the clips on the navigation control pad door as shown.





15. Re-attach the wire harness connector onto the metal mounting bracket.





16. Place the NEW navigation control pad door into the lower console sub-assembly. Confirm all four (4) mounting tabs are properly seated in the lower console sub-assembly.





17. Reinsert the top two (2) screws and tighten securely.





18. Reinsert the bottom two (2) mounting screws and tighten securely.

19. Reinstall the console sub-assembly into the vehicle and confirm proper operation of all components.
