Introduction
A cup holder sub-assembly is now available for 2005 - 2008 model year Avalon vehicles. This new service part eliminates the need to replace the center console sub-assembly when only the cup holder requires replacement. The following replacement procedure should be used when replacing the cup holder sub-assembly.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
1. Remove the center console sub-assembly.
A. Remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly by turning the 4 claws in the direction indicated by the arrow and removing it.
B. Remove the position indicator housing assembly by disengaging the 4 claws.
C. For Seat Heater System: Remove the seat heater switch by disengaging the 4 claws.
D. Remove the upper console sub-assembly panel.
(1) Disengage the 6 claws and remove the console upper box.
(2) Disengage the 10 clips.
(3) Disconnect the connectors and remove the console upper panel sub-assembly.
(4) Remove the tape player assembly.
E. Remove the console box carpet.
F. Remove the console box assembly.
(1) Disconnect the connector.
(2) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 screws and then the console box assembly.
G. Remove the console box front.
(1) Remove the 2 nuts and screw.
(2) Disengage the 2 claws and remove the console front box.
2. Locate the NAVI door and switch.
3. Remove the wire harness from the bracket.
4. Insert a pick between the switch and the black plastic door side piece of the door sub-assembly.
5. Pry the black plastic door side piece away from the switch to release the clip from the hole.
6. Use a screwdriver to pry the tab from the switch clip.
Pry both sides of the door away from the switch until the switch can be pulled out of the housing.
NOTE
Repeat steps 3 - 6 on the other side of the switch until both sides are loose.
7. Remove the NAVI switch from the door assembly.
8. Locate and remove the 4 screws.
9. Remove the cup holder sub-assembly.
10. Place the NEW cup holder part into the console box sub-assembly.
11. Confirm the cup holder tabs seat around the holes.
12. Reinsert the left side screws and tighten.
13. Reinsert the right side screws and tighten.
14. Reinstall the center console box and verify the proper operation. Test drive the vehicle to verify there are no squeaks and rattles present.
