Applicability

Introduction

Some 2005 - 2009 Limited grade Avalon vehicles may exhibit cracked or disfigured vinyl on the side of the driver's seat cushion. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to correct this condition.

Production Change Information





This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.





Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

Disassembly

^ Always wear safety gloves because the edges of the seatback frame and seat adjuster are sharp and may cause injury.

^ Work must be started more than 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned off and the

^ negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The SRS is equipped with a

^ back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds after disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may deploy.)

1. Remove the front seat assembly.





Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable model and model year Repair Manual shown.

2. Remove the front seat inner belt assembly.





3. Using a plastic pry tool remove the slide and vertical power seat switch knob.





4. Using a plastic pry tool remove the reclining power seat switch knob.

5. Remove the front seat cushion shield inner No.





A. Disconnect the 2 clips and the cover.





B. Remove the 5 screws.

C. Disconnect the lumbar front power seat switch connector.

D. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the front seat cushion shield inner No.1 LH and front seat cushion shield LH as a unit.

6. Remove the front seat cushion shield.

7. Remove the front seat cushion shield inner.

A. Remove the screw.





B. Disengage the 2 claws and clip and remove the front seat cushion shield inner.

HINT

Move the front seat cushion shield inner to the rear when it is removed.

8. Remove the front power seat switch.

A. Disconnect the connector.





B. Remove the 3 screws and the position control ECU & switch assembly.

9. Remove the seat cushion cover with pad.





A. with seat heater system:

(1) Disconnect the connector.

(2) Disengage the 3 clamps.





B. Disengage the hooks and remove the 2 clips and the seat cushion cover with pad.

10. Remove the 11 hog rings and the front seat cushion cover.

Reassembly





1. Using hog ring pliers install the front seat cushion cover with 11 new hog rings.

NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the cover.

NOTE
When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible.

2. Reassemble the remainder of the seat assembly in reverse order of disassembly.

3. Install the seat assembly into the vehicle.





Refer to the TIS applicable model and model year Repair Manual shown.

4. Install the seat track bracket cover inner rear LH.





A. Move the front LH seat assembly fully forward by operating the power seat switch knob.

B. Engage the 2 claws and install the seat track bracket cover inner rear LH.





5. Engage the 2 claws and install the front seat track cover LH rear outer.

6. Install the seat track bracket cover inner front LH.





A. Move the front LH seat assembly to the rearmost position by operating the power seat switch knob.

B. Engage the 2 claws and install the seat track bracket cover inner front LH.





7. Engage the 2 claws and install the seat track bracket cover outer front LH.
