Fuel System - 'NO' Start Condition

Introduction

Some 2005 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with a 1ZZ-FE engine may exhibit a "no start" condition. This may be caused by insufficient fuel pressure after the vehicle has been parked for a period. The fuel pump assembly manufacturing process has been improved to correct this condition.

^ 2005 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with 1ZZ-FE engine produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Inspection Procedure





If the vehicle is currently exhibiting a "no start" condition:

^ Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2005 model year Corolla or Matrix Repair Manual: Fuel/Fuel System/On-Vehicle Inspection to check fuel pump operation and fuel pressure.

^ If fuel pressure is not within specification, replace the Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assembly.

Repair Procedure

1. Replace the Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assembly. Refer to TIS, 2005 model year Corolla or Matrix Repair Manual:

^ Fuel/Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assy/Removal & Installation And Disassembly & Reassembly (Corolla)

^ Fuel/Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assy (FF)/Removal & Installation And Disassembly & Reassembly (Matrix)

2. After replacement, confirm proper vehicle operation.

NOTE:
The Fuel Pump Gauge Retainer and Fuel Suction Tube Set Gasket must be replaced with the Fuel Suction wiPump & Gauge Tube Assembly.
