REAR SUSPENSION THUMP NOISE

Introduction
Some customers may complain of a thump or clunk noise coming from the rear suspension when traveling over bumps or rough road surfaces at steady speeds.
Both the left and right rear upper strut supports have been changed to improve this noise condition.
Applicable Vehicles:
^ 2005 - 2006 model year Avalon vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown in this TSB.
Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
1. Conduct a road test to verify the noise condition.
2. Remove and replace both rear upper strut supports by following the procedures in the Technical Information System (TIS):
^ 2005 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Rear Suspension: Rear Shock Absorber With Coil Spring.
^ 2006 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Suspension: Rear Shock Absorber With Coil Spring.
3. Correct and adjust the rear wheel alignment after replacing the rear upper strut supports. Follow the procedure on TIS:

^ 2006 model year Avalon Repair Manual: Suspension: Rear Wheel Alignment.
