Component Tests and General Diagnostics
INSPECTION1. COOLER THERMISTOR NO.1
a. Check resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of cooler thermistor No. 1 at each temperature, as shown in the chart.
If resistance value is not as specified, replace the sensor.
2. COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
Standard Resistance:
a. Inspect blower switch.
1 Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the combination switch assembly.
b. Inspect illumination operation.
1 Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 8 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 3, then check that the illuminations light up.
If the bulb does not light up, replace the bulb.
c. Inspect A/C switch.
Standard Resistance:
1 Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the combination switch assembly.
d. Inspect indicator operation.
1 Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 4 while the A/C switch is pressed, then check that the indicator lights up.
If operation is not as specified, replace the combination switch assembly.
e. Inspect R/F switch.
Standard Resistance:
1 Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the combination switch assembly.
f. Inspect indicator operation.
1 Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 9 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 8 while the RIF switch is pressed, then check that the indicator lights up.
If operation is not as specified, replace the combination switch assembly.
g. Inspect illumination operation.
1 Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 10 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 5, then check that the illuminations light up.
If the bulb does not light up, replace the bulb.
h. Inspect defroster mode detection switch.
Standard Resistance:
1 Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the combination switch assembly.
3. BLOWER RESISTOR
Standard Resistance:
a. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the blower resistor.
4. BLOWER W/FAN MOTOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) to terminal 1, then check that the motor operation smoothly.
If operation is not as specified, replace the blower motor.
5. HEATER BLOWER MOTOR RELAY ASSEMBLY
Standard Resistance:
a. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the heater blower motor relay assembly.
6. MAGNETIC CLUTCH RELAY
Standard Resistance:
a. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the magnetic clutch relay.
