INTRODUCTION:
Some 2003-2008 model year Corolla vehicles equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and an automatic transaxle (ATM) may exhibit a "whistle" or "hoot" noise under light acceleration at 35 - 40 mph (56 - 64 km/h) with the ATM at normal operating temperature. ATM cooler lines have been modified to reduce this condition on customer complaint vehicles.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2003 - 2008 model year Corolla vehicles equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and an automatic transaxle (ATM).

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the existing ATM oil cooler lines from the radiator and ATM.
2. Remove the two 10 mm bolts that fasten the metal cooler lines to the lower radiator support.
3. Install the replacement service parts per the instructions below.
A. Orient the yellow and white paint marks as shown in diagram (yellow towards radiator, white towards ATM) and install hose to tube.
B. Insert hose securely to stopper of radiator tube and cooler tube.
NOTE:
When installing, make sure no foreign matter enters tube and hose. When hose is fixed to the clamp, tube should not be bent and hose should not be twisted.
C. While turning stopper of clamp fitting to radiator support, tighten oil cooler hose clamp to the following specifications:
Torque: 5 N-m (4 ft-lbf, 5.5 kgf-cm)
4. Verify ATM fluid level is correct and check for ATF leaks at ATM cooler lines.
