Introduction
Some 2005 and 2006 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles equipped with a 1ZZ-FE engine may exhibit a "no start" condition. This may be caused by insufficient fuel pressure after the vehicle has been parked for a period of time. The fuel pump assembly manufacturing process has been improved to correct this condition.

Applicable Warranty:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Inspection Procedure
If the vehicle is currently exhibiting a "no start" condition:
^ Refer to the following Repair Manual sections on the Technical Information System (TIS) to check fuel pump operation and fuel pressure:
- 2005 or 2006 model year Corolla: Fuel: Fuel System: On-Vehicle Inspection
- 2005 model year Matrix: Fuel: Fuel System: On-Vehicle Inspection
- 2006 model year Matrix: 1ZZ-FE Fuel: Fuel System: On-Vehicle Inspection
^ If fuel pressure is NOT within specification, replace the Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assembly.
Repair Procedure
1. Replace the Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assembly. Refer to the following Repair Manual sections on TIS:
^ 2005 or 2006 model year Corolla: Fuel: Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assy: Removal & Installation and Disassembly & Reassembly
^ 2005 model year Matrix: Fuel: Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assy (FF): Removal & Installation and Disassembly & Reassembly
^ 2006 model year Matrix: 1ZZ-FE Fuel: Fuel Pump (for 2WD): Removal Installation
2. After replacement, confirm proper vehicle operation.
NOTE:
The Fuel Pump Gauge Retainer and Fuel Suction Tube Set Gasket MUST be replaced with the Fuel Suction w/Pump & Gauge Tube Assembly.
