Component
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Models

TSB REVISION NOTICE:
- January 12, 2007: Production Change Information has been added.
Previous versions of TSB should be discarded.

INTRODUCTION:

Under certain driving conditions, some vehicles may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with DTC P2716 (Pressure Control Solenoid "D" Electrical [Shift Solenoid SLT]) and no noticeable change in vehicle operation. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) calibration has been revised to address this issue.

NOTE:
- Version 13.4a or later Diagnostic Tester software is required to perform this procedure.
- Before proceeding, verify the TCM calibration has NOT been updated by checking for the Authorized Modifications Label (shown in step 1 of the Repair Procedure).

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2007
model year Camry vehicles equipped with the 2GR--FE engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Check for the Authorized Modifications Label affixed to the vehicle in the location shown in Figure 1. Confirm if the TCM calibration has been updated. If the calibration ID listed is NOT the latest TCM - go to step 2.
2. To start diagnosis of DTC P2716, refer to ETAS, 2007 model year Camry Repair Manual, Drivetrain -- Automatic Transmission/Transaxle -- "U660E Automatic Transaxle: Automatic Transaxle System: P2716: Pressure Control Solenoid 'D' Electrical (Shift Solenoid Valve SLT)", and perform step 1 of the Inspection Procedure.
3. If the transmission wire and shift solenoid SLT resistance is within Repair Manual specification, perform the TCM calibration update. If NOT, complete Repair Manual diagnostics to determine the cause of the M.I.L. "ON".

4. Connect the Diagnostic Tester to the vehicle and select CURRENT ECU CAL from the ECU REPROGRAM MAIN MENU. Determine the vehicle's current ECU calibration (see figure 2).
- The sample screen prints are the 13.4a software version and may differ from subsequent software versions

NOTE:
- If the Calibration ID matches the "Previous Calibration ID" as shown in the Calibration Identification Chart in the TSB, proceed with flash reprogramming.
- If the Calibration ID matches the "New Calibration ID" as shown in the Calibration Identification Chart, this vehicle has already been programmed. Refer to ETAS for diagnostic procedure applicable to any stored DTCs.

5. If the ECU calibration ID is NOT the same as the "New Calibration ID" listed previously, proceed to Flash Reprogram TCM.
6. Flash Reprogram TCM.

NOTE:
A battery charger MUST be connected to the battery and set at a medium charge setting during the Flash Reprogram procedure in order to maintain battery voltage above 11.4 volts and prevent damage to the TCM.

Follow the procedures outlined in TSB0941, "ECU Flash Reprogramming Process," and flash the TCM with the NEW calibration file update.

NOTE:
- If the "Check Engine" light is ON when the ignition is turned back on to begin the reprogramming process, a scan tool cable problem exists, Refer to TSB0959, "ECU Flash Reprogramming Error Message."
- If the "Check Engine", "VSC", and "TRAC OFF" lights are ON when the process is complete, confirm that the stored DTC in the TCM is "U0101: Lost Communication with TCM" and the stored DTC in ABS/VSC is "C1201: Engine Control System Malfunction". These two DTCs occur during the Flash Reprogram ECU procedure. Clear the DTCs and perform a road test. Refer to TIS for diagnostic procedures applicable to any other stored DTCs.

7. Enter the required information on the Authorized Modification Label and affix it to the vehicle at the location shown in Figure 1. The Authorized Modification Label is available through your facing PDC, P/N 00451-00001-25.
8. Calibration update is complete. Test--drive vehicle to confirm proper vehicle operation.
