Applicability
Introduction
Some customers of 2004 - 2008 model year Solara vehicles may complain of the A-pillar garnish coming loose. Improved A-pillar garnish headliner and C-pillar garnish have been developed to improve this condition.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
Coupe
1. Remove the front door scuff plate LH
A. Using the plastic pry tool disengage the 2 claws labeled A, 2 claws labeled B, 4 claws labeled C.
B. Remove the 5 clips and remove the scuff plate.
2. Remove the front door scuff plate RH
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
3. Remove the cowl side trim sub-assembly LH
A. Remove the clip labeled A.
B. Disengage the claw and clip labeled B and remove the side trim.
4. Remove the cowl side trim sub-assembly RH.
HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
5. Remove the rear seat assembly
A. Pull up the 2 front portions of the seat cushion then remove it.
HINT
^ The installation procedures are the removal procedures in reverse order. However; only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.
^ A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart
CAUTION
Wear protective gloves. Sharp surfaces on the seatback frame can cause injuries to your hands.
(1) Remove the rear seat cushion assembly by pulling up the 2 front portions of the seat cushion then removing it.
NOTE
The cushion frame deforms easily. To avoid deforming the seat cushion, place your hands near the hook as shown in the illustration, and then pull up on the seat cushion. Do the same for the other hook.
(2) Remove the LH and RH rear seat headrest assemblies.
(3) Remove the rear seatback assembly RH by folding the seatback forward pulling the spring loaded hammer and pulling the seat towards the front of the vehicle.
(4) Pull back the seatback hinge RH and remove the seatback
(5) Remove the rear seatback assembly LH.
HINT
Use the same procedure described for the RH side.
(6) Remove the rear seatback hinge by removing the 2 nuts and seatback hinge.
Torque: 18 N*m (185 kgf*cm, 13 ft*lbf)
6. Remove the front door weatherstrip LH
7. Remove the front door weatherstrip RH
8. Remove the front seat outer belt upper anchor LH
Torque: 42 N*m (430 kgf*cm, 31 ft*lbf)
9. Remove the front seat outer belt upper anchor RH
Torque: 42 N*m (430 kgf*cm, 31 ft*lbf)

10. Remove the center pillar garnish LH
Using the SST, disengage the 2 claws and 2 clips and remove the pillar garnish.
11. Remove the center pillar garnish RH
HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
12. Remove the roof side garnish assembly inner LH
Using the SST disengage the clip labeled A and 3 clips labeled B and remove the side garnish.
13. Remove the roof side garnish assembly inner RH
14. Remove the front pillar garnish LH.
A. Using the SST, disengage the claw and clip, and remove the pillar garnish.
B. Pull the garnish upward and remove it from the instrument panel.
C. w/ Curtain shield airbag: Protect the curtain shield airbag LH.
15. Remove the front pillar garnish RH
HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
16. Remove the LH visor assembly
A. Using the SST, pry out the visor cover.
B. Remove the 2 screws and visor.
C. Disconnect the light connector.
17. Remove the RH visor assembly
HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
18. Remove the roof console box assembly.
A. Using the SST disengage the 3 claws and 2 clips and remove the console box.
B. Disconnect the console box connector.
19. Remove the room lamp assembly No. 1
A. Using the SST, disengage the 2 claws and remove the lens cover.
B. Using a moulding remover disengage the 2 claws and remove the room lamp.
C. Disconnect the room lamp connector.
20. Remove the assist grip sub-assembly
A. Using the SST disengage the 6 claws and remove the 2 grip covers.
B. Remove the 4 screws and 2 assist grips.
21. Remove the coat hook
Using the SST, disengage the claw and remove the bolt and coat hook.
22. Remove visor holder
Remove the visor holder by turning it counterclockwise.
23. Remove the sun roof opening trim molding (w/ Sliding Roof)
24. Remove the roof headlining assembly.
Using a clip remover remove the 4 clips and roof headlining assembly.
25. Install Roof headlining assembly.
A. Align the markings and then install the wire harness with tape.
NOTE
Attach the roof wire harness securely.
B. Install the roof headlining with the 4 clips.
26. Installation is reverse of removal.
NOTE
During installation, note the following specifications:
^ Rear seatback hinge nuts:
Torque: 18 N*m (185 kgf*cm, 13 ft*lbf)
^ Front seat outer belt upper anchor bolt:
Torque: 42 N*m (430 kgf*cm, 31 ft*lbf)
Convertible
1. Replace the LH and RH front pillar garnish.
A. Using the SST, disengage the claw and clip and remove the pillar garnish.
B. Pull the garnish upward and remove it from the instrument panel.
C. Install the front pillar garnish by engaging the clip and claw.
