Title
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM INITIALIZATION
Component
GENERAL INFORMATION
Models
'09 Matrix
INTRODUCTION:
The 2009 model year Matrix is equipped with a direct-type Tire Pressure Warning System [TPWS]. A Tire Pressure Warning System valve/sensor is mounted into each tire [except the spare tire], and the measured tire pressure data is transmitted through a Tire Pressure Warning System antenna/receiver to the TPWS ECU.
During Pre-Delivery Service [PDS], the tire pressure must be set to specification as indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label, located inside the driver's door opening. Follow the procedure below to initialize the TPWS.
NOTE:
The Tire Pressure Warning System valves/sensors are activated at the manufacturing plant. Only the initialization process is required during PDS.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
- 2009 model year Matrix vehicles.
REQUIRED SSTs:
NOTE:
- Please contact your zone Area Parts & Service Managers to order additional Techstream units.
- The Toyota Diagnostic Tester (TDT) and CAN Interface Module may also be used to perform the service procedures listed in this bulletin.
WARRANTY INFORMATION:
INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE:
1. Adjust all tires [except the spare tire] to the standard tire inflation pressure, as indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label on the vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and check that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light is OFF.
3. Push and hold the Tire Pressure Warning "SET" Switch until the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks 3 times and then turns OFF, indicating the system initialization has begun.
The ignition switch MUST be left in the "ON" position for AT LEAST 7 minutes for initialization to complete.
IMPORTANT:
Initialization will NOT complete if the ignition switch is NOT left in the "ON" position for AT LEAST 7 minutes.
4. Connect ETAS Techstream to DLC3.
5. Select the Tire Pressure Warning System Data List. TPWS ECU / DATA LIST / TIREPRESS 1-4
6. Confirm that each tire pressure on the ETAS Techstream Data List shows the set value from step 1.
- If the tire pressure is correct, initialization is complete.
- If the tire pressure is incorrect, check the tire pressure gauge and repeat steps 1-6.
7. Adjust tire inflation pressure to the specified level.
NOTE:
- If there is great difference between the current temperature of the tire and wheel (for example: shop temperature) and expected temperature (for example: outdoor temperature], this needs to be considered when adjusting the tire pressure.
- Adjust the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
