TRUNK LID CORROSION FROM CHROME GARNISH

APPLICABILITY:

INTRODUCTION:

Some 2011 - 2012 model year Corolla vehicles may exhibit a condition where the trunk lid exhibits rust stains around the chrome garnish above the trunk handle. Replace the trunk garnish sub-assembly.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Inspect the area noted in Figure 1 for any signs of corrosion. Verify the condition visually.

2. Remove the luggage compartment door cover.





A. Remove the 9 clips.

B. Remove the luggage compartment door cover.

3. Remove the back door outside garnish subassembly.





A. Remove the 6 nuts.





B. Disengage the 3 clips and remove the luggage compartment door outside garnish sub-assembly.

4. Clean the rust spots oft and inspect the rear trunk lid paint in the area where the back door outside garnish sub-assy rust spots had appeared. If the paint finish has been damaged, the trunk lid will need to be refinished before reassembly.

5. Install the new back door outside garnish sub-assembly.

A. Engage the 3 clips and install the luggage compartment door outside garnish sub-assembly.

B. Install the 6 nuts.

6. Install the luggage compartment door cover with the 9 clips.

7. Confirm repair.
