Diagnosis Using Diagnostic Codes

DIAGNOSIS USING DIAGNOSTIC CODES







1. Diagnostic code display
1. Engine control warning light on the instrument panel flashes diagnostic codes and you can read diagnosis items and inspection items from the "DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) TABLE".







2. Diagnostic connector
1. Diagnostic connector is a harness terminal with tag named "E" and "D" .
2. The diagnostic connector is located on the right side panel under the instrument panel.







3. Display the diagnostic code
1. Connect a jumper wire (99731 Z0008) with alligator clip ends to the diagnostic connector.
2. Turn the starter switch to the "ON" position but do not start the engine.
3. Connect the other end of the wire to the ground (-).

4. End of diagnostic code display
1. Turn the starter switch to the "LOCK" position.
2. Remove the Jumper wire.

Display sample of diagnostic code
- The figure below (Fig. A) shows how the diagnostic codes, 21 and then 32 for example, are displayed.
- The interval of blinks of the lamp indicates the diagnostic codes. First, the lamp turns on for 0.5 second two times to indicate the "2" of the tens digit, and 1.5 seconds later, it turns on 1 times to indicate the "1" of the ones digit.
- To display the next code, which occurs 4.3 seconds later, it turns on 3 + 2 times in the same manner as the first code, and the display of these codes will be repeated thereafter.
- If the system operates properly without malfunctions, the lamp repeatedly turns on for 0.3 second. (Fig. B)
- The diagnostic codes for present malfunctions are repeatedly output in the order of smaller to larger codes.
