DTC Memory Checking and Erasing

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory, checking and erasing (scan tool functions 02 and 05)

Special tools and equipment
V.A.G1551 Scan Tool (ST) or VAG1552 mobile scan tool with VAG1551/3 adapter cable

Test procedure

NOTE: All functions which could previously be performed with V.A.G1551/1552 can also be performed with the VAS5051 vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system.

- Press buttons -0- and -1- to insert "Engine Electronics" address word 01. When doing this the engine must be running at idle (connecting scan tool and selecting engine electronics control module). [1][2]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

NOTE:
Only when the engine does not start:
- Operate the starter for approx. 6 seconds and then do not turn off the ignition.
- Turn on printer by pressing PRINT button (indicator lamp in button lights up).

- Operate scan tool taking into account the information on the display.
- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select "Check DTC Memory" function 02 and press -Q- button to confirm input.

Indicated on display (number of stored DTCs, or "No DTC recognized").

X DTC recognized ->

NOTE:
If no DTCs are stored:
- Press -> button.

If one or more DTCs are stored, the stored DTCs will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

- Press buttons -0- and -5- to select "Erase DTC memory" function 05 and press -Q- button to confirm input.

DTC Memory Is erased

NOTE: If the ignition is turned off between "Check DTC Memory" and "Erase DTC Memory," DTC memory will not be erased.

If DTC memory was erased, generate the readiness code again. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

- Press -> button

- Using DTC table, repair malfunctions which appear on print-out (VAG codes and SAE P0 codes) and (SAE P1 codes) Testing and Inspection
