Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) tableNotes:
The malfunctions are listed in ascending order according to the 5-digit DTC.
The federally required SAE "P" codes can be found in the "SAE code" column. It applies to emissions-related DTCs, and is located to the right of the "DTC" and "VAG1551 display/print-out" column.
DTCs that are not emissions-related, and do not have an associated SAE "P" code, are represented by a dash (-) in the "SAE code" column.
For an explanation of the indicated malfunction type, e.g. "Open circuit/short circuit to Ground," refer to the scan tool operating instructions.
If testing indicates faulty components, first check the associated wiring and connectors and system Ground connections using the wiring diagrams. This is particularly relevant if the malfunctions are accompanied by "/SP" in the display, and "sporadic DTC" in the print-out.
Before continuing with further testing, refer to the general instructions located at Wiring and Component Checks, Using VAG1598/18 Test Box Pinout Values and Diagnostic Parameters
After repairing any malfunctions, erase DTC memory and create the readiness code.
