Service

Service

Install antenna cable and route along right side of vehicle from antenna to radio as follows:

Headliner, Removing

Warning:
Disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable before working on the electrical system.

Tip:

The removal and installation procedures may have to be modified slightly depending on equipment variations.

^ Obtain radio code and radio station presets.

A-pillar Upper Trim, Removing





^ Pull door inner seal -4- off A-pillar -6- and door openings.

^ Starting at top unclip trim -1- from -A- pillar -6- and pull out.

^ Disconnect speaker connector -3-.

Tip:

Before installing trim -1- check clips -5- and replace as necessary.

After installing the trim, check that the door inner seal is properly installed.





^ Gently pry out make-up light with screwdriver and disconnect wiring connector.





^ Loosen sun visor -1- from mounting -2-.

^ Pry off cap -6-.

^ Remove screw -5-.

^ Remove sun visor and mounting -4- and disconnect wiring connector -3-.

^ Pry off cap -7-.

^ Remove screws -8- and remove mount -2-.





^ Remove sun visor mounting cap using a thin screw driver, insert and gently pry upward in direction of arrow as shown.





^ Remove rear edge of trim downward from the headliner and unhook trim at front edge.

^ Disconnect wiring connector for interior light.

^ Press rear-view mirror -1- downward at an angle off retaining plate (spring clip in mirror base).

^ Remove clock (if necessary).





^ Fold handle -1- (if equipped) down.

^ Pry cover -2- up with screwdriver.

^ Remove screws -3- and remove handle -1-.





^ Unclip trim over rear opening -1-.





^ Pull front of molded headliner -1- down and pull forward over B-pillar trim -2- and under windshield.

^ Lower headliner and remove from vehicle through rear opening with help from 2nd technician (to avoid damage).

Glove compartment, Removing





^ Remove covers -1- and remove screws -2-.

^ Remove switch mounting -3- from bracket.





^ Remove screws (arrows).

^ Remove glove box -1-.

^ Disconnect connector for glove box light.

Radio, removing

Tip:

To remove the radio, release tool 3344A is required.





^ Slide radio release tool 3344A into release slots (arrows) until they engage.

^ Pull radio out of instrument panel using grip rings of release tools.


Tip:

The radio release tool 3344A must not be pushed to the side or tilted.

To remove the release tools from the radio the locating lugs on the side of the radio must be pressed inward.

Antenna cable, installing





^ Install cable guide Part No: 1C0971615S and route antenna cable as shown -black arrows-.

Tip:

It is important to make the loop as shown by -white arrows-.





^ Route antenna cable under cross member at as shown.

^ Fasten using tie wraps Part No: N90666101 -arrows- through holes as shown.

For vehicles without grab handle:





^ Route antenna cable along right side of roof and fasten using tie wraps Part No: N90666101 in holes as shown.

For vehicles without grab handle:





^ Continue routing cable along roof to -A-Pillar and fasten using tie wraps Part No: N90666101 in holes as shown.

For vehicles with grab handle:





^ Use clip Part No: 1J5971848A at -arrows- (mount behind grab handle mounting bracket) as shown.

For vehicles with grab handle:





^ Use (qty. 1) of clip Part No: 1J5971848A at -white arrow- (mount near grab handle mounting bracket) as shown.





^ Continue antenna cable routing and fasten to body using tie wraps N90666101 -black arrows- as shown.

^ Continue antenna cable routing along -A- pillar and fasten to body using tie wraps N90666101 - arrows- as shown.





^ Continue cable routing down the -A- pillar next to instrument panel as shown.





^ Continue antenna cable routing along lower -A- pillar to air distribution housing as shown (white dashes show general routing).





^ Route antenna cable behind glove compartment (white dashes show general routing).

^ Fasten to air distribution housing with 100 mm adhesive backed felt strips, cut from Part No: 533867910A at -arrows- (strips shown are white for clarification only).





^ Route antenna cable through impact absorber -arrow- to radio opening (white dashes show general routing).

^ Clip old antenna cable near the tape wrap of the wire harness at the instrument panel and at the antenna.

^ Connect antenna cable to radio, ensure that when radio is installed any excess cable will not interfere or rattle (use left over adhesive backed felt strip as necessary).





^ Install headliner in reverse order of removal.

Tip:

When reinstalling headliner, push molded headliner retaining straps into moldings (arrows) on edge of rear opening.

^ Install radio.

^ Install glove compartment and switch mounting in reverse order of removal.

^ Install A-pillar trim.

Warning:
Ensure that there is no person inside the vehicle when connecting battery ground cable.

^ Connect battery ground (GND) cable.

^ Connect VAG 1551/5052 Scan Tool.

^ Check all systems for stored DTC's.

^ Erase any stored DTC's.

^ After connecting battery, check vehicle equipment (radio code, clock, electric windows) as per Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.

^ Program radio station presets.
