DTC Memory Checking and Erasing

NOTE: This is the only information provided by the manufacturer to Read and Erase trouble codes.


DTC memory, checking

Special tools, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adaptor cable

Work sequence
- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool, [1][2][3]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine electronics"
- Start engine and let idle

If engine does not start:
- Operate starter for approx. 6 seconds and then do not switch OFF the ignition.
- Switch ON Scan Tool printer using print button
- Warning lamp in button must light up

Display will appear as shown

Select Function XX


- Operate Scan Tool taking displayed information into account
- Press 0 and 2 buttons to select Function 02: "Check DTC memory"
- Press Q button to enter input.

The number of DTC's stored or "NO DTC recognized" will be shown on the display.


X DTC's recognized!


If NO DTC stored:
- Press -> button.


NOTE: If one or more DTC's are stored, they will be displayed and printed out one after the other.


After stored DTC's have been printed, display will appear as shown

Select Function XX

- Press 0 and 5 buttons to select Function 05: "Erase DTC memory".
- Press Q button to enter input.

Display will appear as shown


Rapid data transfer ->
DTC memory is erased!


NOTE: If the ignition is switched OFF between "Check DTC memory" and "Erase DTC memory", DTC memory will NOT be erased!


- If DTC memory was erased, Readiness Code must be created again, Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes.
- Press -> button.

Display will appear as shown
