DTC Memory Checking and Erasing - II

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory, Checking And Erasing

Special tools, and equipment
- Scan Tool (ST) VAG 1551 (or VAG 1552) with cable VAG 1551/1 or VAG 1551/3

Test conditions
- Fault eliminated

NOTE: After eliminating faults the fault memory must be interrogated again as follows and then erased.

Work sequence
- Connect Scan Tool (ST) VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) and with "Address word" 01 select ECM (with engine idling), Scan Tool, connecting. Connecting VAS 5051 Scan Tool)

Indicated on display:

Select function XX

- Press buttons -0- and -2- for function "Check DTC memory" and confirm entry with -Q- button.

- Press button until all DTC still stored have appeared and the display reads:
- Press buttons -0- and -5- for function "Erase DTC memory" and confirm entry with -Q- button.

Indicated on display:

DTC memory is erased!

- If the fault memory will not erase there is a fault still in the system and this must be rectified.

NOTE: If ignition is turned off between "Check DTC memory" and "Erase DTC memory" DTC memory will not be erased.

- Set readiness code, if DTC memory was erased. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
- Press -> button.

- Press buttons -0- and -6- for "End output" and confirm with -Q- button.

Automatic Test Sequence

During test and assembly work DTCs can be recognized from other control modules like e.g. plug disconnected. Therefore, on completion DTC memory for all control modules must be check and erased, as follows:

- Press button -0- twice for address word "Automatic test sequence" and confirm entry with -Q- button. VAG 1551 transmits all known address words one after another.

When a control module answers with its identification the number of stored DTCs appears on display or "No DTC recognized" appears.

Any DTCs stored will be displayed one after another and printed out. VAG 1551 will transmit next address word.

Automatic test sequence has ended when the following is displayed:

VAG ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer*
2 - Blink code output*

* Appears alternately

- Erase all DTC memory, then road test.

Observe all safety measures during test drive.
- If the DTC was erased the readiness code must be generated again. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
- Check DTC memory for all control modules using "automatic test sequence".

If no DTC is stored:
- Press -> button.

- Switch ignition off.
