Condition

Tailgate/trunk lid is hard to close.

May be caused by excessive look spring tension for lock mechanism.

Production

Improved lock plate to be installed beginning June 27, 2003 (approximate date).

Service

Install new lock plate spring Part No:

1Y0 827 671A for tailgate/trunk lid lock mechanism as follows

- Remove rear luggage area load sill cover (see Repair Manual Group 70 - Load sill cover (Convertible), removing and installing).





- Remove lock plate spring (arrow) using needle nosed pliers.

- Install new lock plate spring Part No: 1Y0 827 671A.

- Install rear luggage area load sill cover (see Repair Manual Group 70 - Load sill cover (Convertible), removing and installing.





When procedure applies to vehicles within the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, use the table.
