Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

Removing:

CAUTION!
^ Before working on the electrical system, obtain radio security code and disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
^ When reconnecting battery, always check operation of vehicle equipment.





Installation position of locking cable
1 Footwell vents
2 Support for instrument panel
3 Heater unit
^ Remove steering wheel, handle for steering height and reach adjustment and cover for ignition/starter lock.
^ Turn ignition ON.
^ Move selector lever to " P".





^ Remove clip -2- for locking cable -3-.
^ Pull locking cable out of steering lock -1-.
^ Push down sleeve on selector lever handle.
^ While depressing knob, remove selector lever handle by pulling upward.
^ Remove center console and arm rest if installed.
^ Remove switch bracket.
^ Disconnect locking cable from locking lever at selector mechanism.





^ Press tabs of retaining clip together -arrows-.
^ Pull locking cable out of selector mechanism.

Installing:

CAUTION!
^ When installing, ensure locking cable routing is correct.
^ Do not kink locking cable.
^ Adjust locking cable after installing.
^ Move selector lever to "P".
^ Press locking cable into support bracket on selector lever housing until tabs on retaining clip -arrows- spread.
^ Attach locking cable in locking lever.
^ Turn ignition ON.
^ Push locking cable into steering lock.
^ Install clip into locking cable.
^ Be sure that clip is properly located.
^ Locking cable, adjusting.
