Locking cable, removing and installing
Removing
- Check whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
- Move selector lever to position "P".
- With ignition switched off disconnect battery Ground strap.
- Removing drivers airbag unit and steering wheel.
- Remove trim on left under instrument panel.
- Remove steering column trim.
- Remove bolts/screws -1- from height and reach adjustment handle -2-.
- Turn ignition key to position "ignition on".
- Pull out clip -2- for locking cable -3-.
- Pull locking cable out of steering lock -1-.
- Remove selector lever handle.
- Remove center console.
- Remove bolt on locking cable support mounting (arrow -A-).
- Carefully pull locking cable out of selector mechanism (arrow -B-) and unhook from locking lever (arrow -C-).
- Pull locking cable out of instrument panel.
Installing
Note:
^ Locking cable must not be kinked.
^ Adjust locking cable after installing.
Installation position of locking cable
1. Footwell vent
2. Instrument panel support
3. Heater unit
- Pull rod upward and move selector lever to position "P" with rod held in upward position.
- Pull locking cable slightly out of cable casing and hook into locking lever (arrow -C-).
- Hook locking cable support mounting into gear lever bracket (arrow -B-)
- Push locking cable into steering lock. illustration N370773.

- Install clip -2- for locking cable -3-.
Installation position:
Install clip from above. Angled ends of clip face steering lock
Note: Make sure that clip is correctly located.
- Adjust locking cable.
- Check function of ignition key withdrawal lock.
- Install center console.
- Install selector lever handle.
- Install trim on left under instrument panel.
- Install steering column trim.
- Tighten bolts/screws -1- for height and reach adjustment handle -2-.
- Install airbag unit and steering wheel.
- Connect battery Ground strap.
- Enter radio code.
- Initialize power windows, set correct time on clock.
