Flex Plate: Service and Repair

Drive plate, removing and installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Counterhold VW558
^ Hex bolt M8x45 and two M10 hex nuts
^ Depth gauge

Removing





- Secure counterhold VW558 to drive plate with M8x45 hex bolt. Place two M10 hex nuts between counterhold tool and drive plate.
- Installed position of counterhold- A - To loosen
- Loosen drive plate bolts.
- Remove counterhold tool, remove bolts and drive plate

Installing





- Position drive plate and packing plate - 1 - with recesses aligned. (Shim - 2 - added later).





- Secure counterhold VW558 to drive plate with M8x45 hex bolt. Place two M10 hex nuts between counterhold tool and drive plate.
- Installed position of counterhold- B - To tighten





- Fit new bolts - 3 - and tighten to 30 Nm.
- Check dimension - a - at three points and calculate average. Specification- 19.5 ... 21.1 mm

Note: Dimension - a - is measured through hole in drive plate to the milled surface of the cylinder block.





If the specification is not attained:
- Remove drive plate again and install appropriate shim - 2 Retighten bolts - 3 - again to 30 Nm.
- Tighten bolts - 3 - to 60 Nm and turn 90° (1/4) further.
(turning further can be done in several stages).
