Lighting - Water Intrusion Into Tail Lamp

Condition

Water intrusion in either inner rear tail lamp assembly.





- May be caused by gasket damaged in area indicated (white arrow).

Production

Plastic washer installed on screw beginning with VIN; 3VWSG71K35M624647 (U.S) or VIN: 3VWSF31K56M611055 (Canada).

Service

Tip:

Do Not replace tail lamp housing for water intrusion caused by a leaking gasket. Replace tail lamp housing gasket any time tail lamp housing assembly is removed.

Add one washer to both tail lamp assemblies and replace housing gaskets as follows;

- Remove inner tail lamp assemblies. See Repair Manual, Electrical Equipment, Lights, Switches - exterior Rear lights Rear lights in rear lid, removing and installing.

- Remove bulb see Repair Manual, Electrical Equipment, Lights, Switches - exterior Rear lights , Rear lights in rear lid - bulb holder removing and installing.

- Dry assemblies using compressed air or hot air blower.

- Remove and discard old housing gasket.





- Insert 1 plastic washer Part No: 1KM 945 201 on each housing, where indicated (black arrow).





- Install new housing gasket Part No: 1K5 945 191 over washer (gasket must seat on housing)

Tip:

- Install tail lamp assemblies. See "Repair Manual", Electrical Equipment, Lights, Switches - exterior Rear lights , Rear lights in rear lid, removing and installing.

- Tighten housing nuts to 3.5 Nm +/- 0.5 Nm

It is not necessary to contact the New Jetta helpline for this repair.
