Glossary

Glossary, 02E, 6 Speed Direct Shift A/T
These definitions are relevant only to this transmission. They are not intended to be generally applicable.

CAN-Bus
Data transmission. Electric signals are converted in to specific forms for this (BUS). Further information for this can be found in WSP 512 419 00 The CAN-Bus.

CD-ROM
Compact Disk-Read Only Memory. A data medium which can only be read by a computer and cannot be written.

Pressure regulation valves
Pressure control valves are modulation valves and continuously regulate the hydraulic pressure during gear changes to enable clutches to open and close smoothly.

Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch -F125-
Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch F125 replaces Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch F125. It is a purely electronic component in contrast to the multi-function switch. It is located in the Mechatronic electronics module.

Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor -G93- with Temperature Sensor (in Control Module) -G510-
Sensor signals are used to test the Mechatronic temperature and for the warm-up shift program.

Transmission Input Speed (RPM) Sensor -G182-
Sensor acquires the transmission input RPM and conveys it to Mechatronic.

Driveshaft 1 Speed Sensor -G501-
Sensor acquires the RPM of driveshaft 1.

Driveshaft 2 Speed Sensor -G502-
Sensor acquires the RPM of driveshaft 2.

Automatic Transmission Hydraulic Pressure Sensor 1 -G193-
Sensors 1 and 2 are structurally the same and are located in Mechatronic. They monitor clutch pressure of clutches "K1" and "K2".

Automatic Transmission Hydraulic Pressure Sensor 2 -G194-
Sensors 1 and 2 are structurally the same and are located in Mechatronic. They monitor clutch pressure of clutches "K1" and "K2".

Transmission Control Module (TCM)
Located in the Mechatronic electronics module.

M 12 x 55
M = metric (Norm identification for a type of thread on threaded connections). 12 x 55 = nominal diameter 12 millimeters, length 55 millimeters.

Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
Solenoid is located in shift mechanism in vicinity of selector lever. It prevents (involuntary) movement of the selector lever from positions "P" and "N" as long as the brake pedal is not depressed.

Solenoid valves
Open and close oil channels to the clutches upon receiving signals from the control module.

Mechatronic
Mechatronic comprises the hydraulic control module (valve body), sensors, Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch F125, Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor G93 and the electronic Transmission Control Module (TCM). Mechatronic is located at front on the transmission and is enclosed in the oil pan.

Parking lock
The selector lever controls the parking lock wheel when the vehicle is stationary and prevents the vehicle from rolling (involuntary).

Pendulum supports
A part of subframe mount.

Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module -J587-
Hall sensors in the control module acquire the selector lever position and conveys it via CAN-Bus to Mechatronic.

Clutch Oil Temperature Sensor -G509-
The control module regulates the clutch oil quantity according to the sensor signals.

Tiptronic Gate
With an additional selector gate on the right of the normal selector gate, it is now possible to manually shift up a gear by moving the selector lever to plus (+) and manually shift down a gear by moving the selector lever to negative (-). Depending on vehicle equipment, the transmission can be shifted manually via the Steering Wheel Tiptronic Switch E389.

Gear Position Distance Sensors
Sensors are located in Mechatronic. In conjunction with magnets on the shift forks, they generate a signal from which the control module detects the gear selector positions.
