Clutch Switch: Testing and Inspection

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required







- Portable multimeter V.A.G 1526 B







- Connector test set V.A.G 1594 C
- Wiring diagram

Test requirements







- Fuse for Clutch Position Sensor G476 OK.
- Battery voltage at least 12.5 volts.
- All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster, switched off.
- Vehicles with automatic transmission, shift selector lever into position "P" or "N".
- A/C switched off.
- Ground (GND) connections between engine/transmission/chassis OK.
- Ignition switched off.

Test sequence
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove Battery A and battery holder.







- Disconnect 5-pin harness connector - 4 - at Clutch Position Sensor G476.
- Check wire from terminal 5 to fuse in E-box plenum chamber and the fuse itself.
- Connect test box to wiring harness of Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) J220.
- Check wire between test box and 5-pin connector for open circuit according to wiring diagram:

- Check wire for short circuit to Battery A (+) and Ground (GND).

Specified value: Infinite Ohms

If no malfunctions are detected in the wires and the voltage values are OK:
- Replace Clutch Position Sensor G476.
