Lighting - Moisture Inside Backup Lamps

Taillight, Rear Lid, Moisture Accumulation
Excessive condensation is visible on the inside backup taillight(s) located on the lid.
NOTE: Condensation does not affect performance of light assemblies.
Technical Background
NOTE: Exterior light assemblies (headlights, taillights, fog lights, turn signals) are vented and may collect some moisture on their inner surfaces, depending on humidity and other climatic changes.
Taillight seal may have been damaged by excessive torque applied to the mounting screw.
Production Solution
Final counter measure pending.
Service
1. Remove taillight(s) see Repair Manual, Group 94 - Rear Lamps in Rear Lid, Sedan in ElsaWeb.
2. Verify if the seal has been damaged as described above.
3. Replace the seal if damaged. Do not replace the taillight.
4. Use compressed air to clear the condensation from the taillight.
5. If seal is not damaged, check for leaking seals, cracks in lenses or assemblies.
- Replace Taillight if damage is found. Provide a photograph of taillight damage along with repair documentation for verification.
6. Install taillight(s) see Repair Manual, Group 94 - Rear Lamps in Rear Lid, Sedan in ElsaWeb.
- Re-torque mounting screws to 3.5 NM. (+-0.5 NM).
