Cooling Fan Continues to Run after Switching Engine OFF
After switching OFF engine (ignition off), cooling fan sporadically continues to run. Customer may notice an odor from the engine compartment along with this condition
NOTE: The condition as described is normal. DO NOT replace cooling system components for this condition. Parts replaced for this condition will be debited.
Technical Background
Engine compartment warms up because of the diesel particulate filter regeneration.
Production Solution
No Production change required.
Service
The after-running of the cooling fan is deliberate and can last up to 10 minutes after switching engine OFF.
The after-running prevents high engine compartment temperatures due to diesel particulate filter regeneration.
The cooling fan can continue to run even after driving less than 2 miles (3.2 Km).
When restarting the engine the cooling fan operates normally.
