Ignition System: Description and Operation

TSZ Ignition System:

TSZ (Transistorized Coil Ignition)
The Bosch TSZ ignition system uses an inductive pulse generator to perform the function of contact points. Other functions of the ignition are performed in a conventional manner using a centrifugal advance unit and vacuum advance/retard diaphragm.

The pulse generator transmits a voltage signal to the control unit which controls the charging period of the coil. The coil field is charged through a ballast resistor from the ignition switch. When the control unit breaks ground contact from the ignition coil, the collapsing field sends high voltage electrical current through the secondary side of the ignition system to the spark plug.
