THIS SERVICE MANAGER BULLETIN APPLIES TO U.S. CALIFORNIA DEALERS ONLY
Volvo Cars of North America has determined that certain 1983 and 1984 240 series vehicles sold and registered in the state of California fitted with B23F engines within the chassis ranges listed below, will be subject to an Emission Service Campaign.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has performed emission tests on a small number of model year 1983 Volvo 240 vehicles. The test results for some of the vehicles exceeded the established limits on Hydrocarbons (HC) and Nitrogenoxides (NOx). The California limits on NOx are more stringent than the U.S. federal limits which apply to the other 49 states.

The corrective action win include the installation of a delay valve in both the ignition and fuel injection systems, as well as a minor modification on the electronic control unit.
