Grounding of windshield wiper motor

The existing type of wiper motor with a grounding strip has been replaced as a spare by a unit with a ground terminal screw. When replacing the motor on models up to 1991, an extra ground lead must be run from the terminal screw on the motor to the ground terminal on the body. The location of the body terminal will vary depending on the motor and body version. The following components are required to make up and install a new ground lead:

975561-2, ground screw, wiper motor
954443-8, ground lead (supplied by meter length)
970789-4, cable terminal for ground screw on wiper motor
956946-8, cable terminal for body ground terminal
3540626-3, wiper motor

Replacement of windshield wiper motor

Replace wiper motor as described in Service Manual. Make up 1000 mm (40 in.) long ground lead and connect to ground terminal screw on motor. Run cable through harness clip and along harness to suspension strut tower. Ground lead as per appropriate method.

Vehicles with gasoline engines

Connect lead to ground terminal at washer reservoir.

Vehicles with diesel engines

Connect lead to gound terminal at air cleaner mounting bracket.

If replacement of the wiper motor is necessary, due to a symptom covered by the new car warranty, the following operation number should be used:
