Turbocharger: Description and Operation

The turbocharger is an exhaust driven device which compresses the intake air to increase engine power on a demand basis. This allows for performance equal to that of a larger displacement naturally aspirated engine without the added weight and fuel consumption. Other benefits of a turbocharged engine are lower noise and emission levels.
