Installation
1. Place transmission on fixture P/N 5972. Fixture should be in its rear position. Tighten fixture bolts carefully.
2. Raise transmission. Make sure the release bearing is correctly positioned in fork. Raise transmission and align transmission input shaft in the clutch disc. Install two upper and two lower bolts for bellhousing. Remove lifting device and fixture assembly.
3. Installing:
- Connect connectors at transmission. Use a plastic clamp to secure wiring harness to gear shift assembly.
- Install starter motor.
- Hydraulic clutch - attach slave cylinder.
- Mechanical clutch - adjust clearance 1-3 mm (0.04-0.12 in) between release fork and bearing.
- Install rear support (rubber bushing).
- Install crossmember assembly.
- Attach exhaust pipe bracket. Tighten exhaust pipe joint.
4. Check transmission oil level.
5. Attach gear shift lever and snap-ring.
6. Attach gear shift rod to gear shift lever. Connect propeller shaft. Use tool P/N 5224.
7. Adjust clearance for reverse gear detent. Engage first gear and adjust clearance between detent plate and gear shift lever. Also check the clearance with second gear engaged. Clearance 1.0-1.5 mm (0.04-0.06 in).
8. Attach gear shift lever cover, frame and the ash tray assembly. Make sure there are no "noise leaks" around the gear shift lever. Any opening will transfer noise.
9. Reconnect battery ground cable.
10. Check transmission operation.
