Water Pump: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove intake manifold.
3. Disconnect expansion tank hoses from radiator.
4. Remove upper radiator hose.
5. With automatic transmission, disconnect transmission oil cooler pipes from radiator.
6. Remove screws from fan shroud and slide shroud to the rear.
7. Remove radiator.
8. Remove fan.
9. Remove water pump to cylinder head hoses. Remove coolant return hoses at pump.
10. Remove fan belts and water pump pulley.
11. Disconnect thermal timer and temperature sender wires.
12. Remove water pump from engine block.
13. Reverse procedure to install. Torque water pump attaching bolts to 13 ft. lbs.
