Fuel Injection
TESTING PROCEDURE:NOTE: While trouble shooting, always check the wiring, fuses and connectors for good condition and routing. Use the wiring diagrams found in SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS to supplement your testing efforts.
Color Code Legend:
Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment:
1. Turn ignition OFF.
2. Check the throttle position sensor adjustment by opening the throttle slightly and listen for a "click" (idle switch opening).
a. If the "click" occur's immediately after throttle opening, proceed to step 7.
b. If the "click" does not occur immediately after throttle opening, proceed to next step.
3. Loosen throttle position sensor mounting bolts (3mm hex).
4. Turn sensor slightly clockwise.
5. Turn sensor counter-clockwise until the switch "clicks". Tighten mounting bolts.
6. Recheck setting as in step 2.
Checking ECU Ground Connections:
7. Access fuel injection ECU by removing the passenger side kick panel and glove compartment.
8. Check fuel injection ECU ground connections. They should make good contact and fit tight.
Removing ECU Connector:
9. Remove the ECU connector by pressing up the latch and folding out the wire cluster.
Removing Protective Cover:
10. Remove connector protective sleeve.
CAUTION: ^ Never check connections from the front. Connectors can get damaged and worsen the problem.
^ Check connections through the holes in the connector.
^ Connection pin numbers are printed on the connector side.
Checking Pin 3:
11. Check throttle position sensor by connecting an ohmmeter between ground and pin 3 at ECU connector.
Reading: 0 ohm (idle switch closed)
12. Depress gas pedal slightly.
Reading: infinity (idle switch open)
13. If a fault occurs, repeat these steps by measuring the resistance at the throttle position sensor. The center pin is ground.
a. If resistance reading is the same, replace the throttle position sensor and retest.
b. If resistance reading is correct, check wiring, ground and connectors. Fix as necessary.
Assemble Connector:
14. Disconnect the test equipment. Reconnect the ECU and all other connectors, install the kick panel and glove compartment.
