Connection and disconnection of control unit

Power to the control unit must always be cut when the connector or measurement box is attached or removed.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove fuse no.1.

Switch off ignition for:
- Connection and disconnection of test instrument.
- Connection/disconnection of connectors.
- Connection/disconnection of electrical wiring for ignition coil and spark plugs.
- Measurement with ohmmeter.

For compression test
- Disconnect the 2-pole connector on the power stage / ignition coil (to prevent flashover to the electrical system's wiring harness).
- Disconnect connectors from injectors (to prevent over-rich mixture, dilution of engine oil etc.).

Battery

When testing the various components, it is important that battery voltage is normal. If necessary, a battery charger can be connected during the test.
Maximum permitted charge current:
15 Amps at 16 Volts.
^ Do not disconnect the cables while the engine is running.
^ Remove the battery cables during rapid recharging.
^ Do not use a high-speed recharger or higher voltage than 16 V when jump starting.

Fire risk

A great deal of care is essential to avoid the risk of sparks, particularly when checking the injectors.

High tension

Important! The ignition system operates under very high voltages.

Control units

- The control units should not be exposed to more than 80°C (176°F). Remove the control units for such jobs as paint baking treatment.
- Remove the connector from the control units before starting electric welding operations.
- If electric welding is to be carried out near a control unit it should be removed.
- Do not replace a control unit without first checking the electrical wiring and components. A fault here might otherwise damage the new unit in the same way as the old one.

Cleanliness

- Observe the greatest possible cleanliness when working on the fuel system.
- Carefully clean the fuel connections before disconnecting them.

Gaskets, seals
- Always use new gaskets and seals when any connector has been disconnected.
