SUBJECT:
SERVICE CAMPAIGN 60A - 960 SPEED SENSOR; PARTS REQUIRED FOR 40,000 MILE SERVICE

I.

Service Campaign 60 covering certain 1992 960 Series vehicles was initiated to inspect and if necessary, replace A/C switches, Motronic and/or transmission control units.

Since the launch in May 1992, additional technical improvements have been developed. Therefore, Service Campaign 60 is being expanded to include the replacement of the engine speed sensor.

The part number involved is:

Qty Per Vehicle Part Number Description

1 3547699-3 Speed Sensor

An initial allocation of speed sensors will be made during the week of November 23, 1992, which will equal 20% of the vehicles reported to be wholesaled to your dealership. After this allocation, you may order additional quantities using normal ordering procedures.

Service information for this campaign is contained in Service Manager Bulletin, Group 00, No. 139, and Technical information and Instructions, Group 28, No. 60A.

II.

Additionally, a new torsion damper (271757-7) timing belt (271705-6), and shield (1397381-3) have been introduced.

These parts are now included in the 40,000 mile service and should not be installed in conjunction with the speed sensor.

Note:
Torsion dampers, belts, and shields will not be allocated as they are not part of this campaign. It is suggested you order at least one of each for your stock, and you plan for the appropriate inventory levels when customers make appointments for the 40,000 mile service.
