Fuel Tank: Service and Repair

Fuel Tank:

WARNING: Do not smoke or have anything in the area which can ignite.

REMOVAL
1. Remove negative battery terminal.
2. Remove fuel filler cap.
3. Siphon fuel from tank using a suitable tool.
4. Access the pump and sending unit cover as follows.
^ Sedan: Remove the forward access panel located in the trunk under floor mat.
^ Wagon: Fold rear seat forward. Remove floor mat screws and pull mat forward.
5. Remove the access cover.
6. Remove breather, return, supply hose and wiring from pump/sending unit assembly.
7. Remove filler hose clamp and remove hose.
8. Remove the tank screws and remove fuel tank.

INSTALLATION
1. Reinstall tank in reverse order and check the following:
a. Rustproof top of tank before installing.
b. Check alignment of filler hose (see image).
c. Always use new o-ring when connecting filler hose.
d. Rustproof rest of tank and check for leaks.
