Ignition Control Module

1-1-2 IGNITION CONTROL MODULE FAULT

Condition(s) for DTC
^ When the engine is started, the Ignition Control Module (ICM) is checked by verifying the internal checksum. The module monitors the knock control circuit and Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor conditions when the car is driven. The DTC is recorded it the ICM detects a program fault.

Substitute value
^ The ICM retards the timing in the event of a knock control circuit fault.

Fault source(s)
^ ICM fault.
^ ICM knock control circuit fault.
^ ICM ECT sensor circuit fault.

Fault symptom(s)
^ May cause impaired performance.

TESTING PROCEDURE

Other DTCs
^ Read other DTCs.

If DI DTC 4-3-2 and/or 5-1-3 is recorded:
- Proceed to DTC 5-1-3 Temperature Warning level 2.
If neither DTC is recorded:
- Check Status message.

Status message
^ Check current Status Message.

If Status message is: Permanent fault:
- Proceed to PERMANENT FAULT Section below.
If Status message is: Intermittent fault:
- Proceed to INTERMITTENT FAULT Section below.

^ The fault counter indicates the number of starts during which the ICM has detected a fault-free signal after the DTC has been recorded.

PERMANENT FAULT

^ Switch OFF ignition.
^ Try with new 1CM.

INTERMITTENT FAULT

DTC erasure
^ ICM has earlier computed internal checksum incorrectly.
^ Erase DTC.
