2-1-4 ENGINE SPEED (RPM) SENSOR SIGNAL SPORADICCondition(s) for DTC
^ The DTC is recorded only it the engine is running. The DTC is recorded if the ICM detects two carrier plate / flywheel teeth too few or too many.
Substitute value
^ None.
Fault source(s)
^ Loose connections in wiring or joints.
^ Damaged cable insulation.
^ Contact resistance in terminals.
^ Damage to carrier plate.
^ Faulty sensor.
Fault symptom(s)
^ Severe engine shudder.
TESTING PROCEDURE
Other DTCs
^ Read other DTCs.
If DI DTC 3-1-4 is recorded:
- Proceed to DTC 3-1-4 Camshaft Position Sensor Signal Missing.
If DI DTC 3-1-4 is not recorded:
- Check Status message.
Status message
^ Check current Status message.
If Status message is: Signal faulty.
- Proceed to: SIGNAL FAULTY Section below.
^ The fault counter indicates the number of starts during which the ICM has detected a fault-free signal after the DTC has been recorded.
SIGNAL FAULTY
Checking wiring and connections
^ Check wiring connections for contact resistance and oxidation, and for loose connections.
If wiring is intact:
- Check carrier plate/flywheel for damage or scoring.
If carrier plate/flywheel is intact:
- Try with new sensor.
