Trip Computer (VDO Only)
For user Instructions, Description and OperationData Collection:
A microprocessor analyzes data continuously and passes it to the trip computer. The trip computer takes data on:
- The car's road speed at any time; from the speedometer
- Fuel consumption at any time; from fuel impulse signals from the fuel control module
- Fuel left in tank; from signals from the fuel gauge after processing in the instrument panel
- Outside temperature; from signals from the outside temperature sensor.
Functions:
The trip computer display is in two sections. The left-hand section shows the time and the right-hand section any of the following functions:
- Average speed
- Current fuel consumption
- Average fuel consumption
- Outside temperature
- Distance since last reset
- Range left until tank empty.
Selecting Units:
Pressing the push-buttons to the left of the display at the same time changes the temperature and time display units as follows:
- Press once: 12-hour clock and °F
- Press twice: 24-hour clock and °F
- Press three times: 12-hour clock and °C
- Press four times: 24-hour clock and °C.
Function Select:
Function select is via a separate control panel at the side of the steering wheel. Turn the switch marked INFO to the option required. A rectangle on the edge of the display window against the function symbol concerned shows which function is selected.
Reset:
To reset average speed, average fuel consumption and the trip meter, use the switch marked RESET at the bottom of the control panel. Turn the switch to the function required and press the reset button and hold down for at least two seconds to reset. To reset all reset functions, hold reset button down for a further three seconds.
Warning Function:
The trip computer has a built-in warning function for low fuel level and outside temperature. If the outside temperature is between +2 °C (36 °F) and -5 °C (23 °F), a red diode comes on and the display shows the outside temperature. Low outside temperature warnings always take priority over everything else. Use the info switch to return to the last function selected.
Diagnosis:
The trip computer has a self-diagnosis function which can detect three kinds of faults:
- If the function select is not connected, the display reads 'DISC'.
- If the outside temperature sensor is not connected, or is shorted to supply, the display reads 'LO'.
- If the outside temperature sensor is short-circuited to ground, the display reads 'HI'.
