DTM 6 (Entering Data)

Inputs:

Use DTM 6 when installing a new instrument panel. When installing a new instrument panel, check the data below and program it into the new instrument panel as necessary.

1) Enter calibration code for speedometer (select speedometer type).
2) Enter distance. Transfer reading from old speedometer.
3) The service reminder lamp activation criteria are always preset; they only need reprogramming if other SRI parameters are required.

CAUTION: This programming can ONLY BE DONE ONCE for each instrument panel so it is important to GET IT RIGHT. Use a ST (Volvo Scan Tool) if possible.

Selecting Test Modes:

The first step is to go into DTM 5 and select the service parameter you wish to enter. Now read off the code stored; then go to DTM 6 (below) within 30 seconds and enter the new code.

The procedure for this is as follows:
- Switch ignition on.
- Select DLC A position 7. General Information
- Press button five times, briefly but firmly.
- You are now in DTM 5.

Enter the code for the service parameter you wish to change. Enter the code for the service parameter as shown in Chart "Information and Checks", column one. Tables/Charts
- Enter the first digit while the LED is still on.
- The LED will go out; wait for it to come on again, then enter the second digit.
- Repeat for third digit. Read off the response code held in memory.

Go To DTM 6:

Inputs:

- Press button six times, briefly but firmly, within 30 seconds of the response code flashing as above. You are now in DTM 6.
- Wait until the LED stays on.
- Enter new code as shown in tables 4 - 7. Tables/Charts
- Take one digit at a time.

Wait for the LED to come back on and stay on before entering the next digit.
- Confirming entries

The control module will flash out the same code as you entered to enable you to check that you entered the right code (if incorrect, start from the beginning again).

Wait until LED stays on again.
- Now hold button down for more than five seconds to confirm that entry is correct.
- Release button; light should go out.

Entering Data:

Example: Entering data when installing new instrument panel. Once the new instrument panel has been installed:
1) Program in the speedometer type.
2) Program in the mileage.
3) Program in the new SRI parameters if required.

- It is important to do this in the right order.
- Unlike other procedures, there are no codes for gauge settings. Rather, each digit in the reading is displayed/entered via the same number of flashes / pushes. This is with the exception of '0', which is 10 flashes / pushes.

Example: You have installed a new instrument panel. You need to enter the mileage as 012345.

The procedure is as follows:
- Go to DTM 5.
- Select code 1-1-2 for the first three figures of the mileage and read off the figures held in memory. If no mileage has been entered in a new instrument panel, the memory will be blank and the LED will flash three 0s (3 x 10 flashes).

- Now press button 6 times to go to DTM 6.
Wait until LED stays on.

Enter the first three digits of the mileage from the old instrument panel (012) as follows:
- Digit # 1: Wait for LED to stay on, then press button 10 times.
- Digit # 2: Wait for LED to stay on, then press button once.
- Digit # 3: Wait for LED to stay on, then press button twice.

- The LED will flash the same number of times as you pressed the button, to let you check that you entered it correctly. Note down the number of flashes. If you got it wrong, start again.

CAUTION: It is important to get the mileage entry right: you can only enter it once.

- When the LED comes on and stays on, confirm the input by pressing the button and holding it down for more than 5 seconds.
- Release button. LED will go out.
- Now repeat the procedure for the last three digits of the mileage.
- Code 1-1-1.
- Enter digits as above: digits 3, 4 and 5.
- Check and confirm.

Selecting New Service Parameters or Speedometer Type:

Example: Selecting new service parameters. Service parameter 1-3-1: 'Mileage interval for activating service reminder lamp'. Change from 5,000 km (2500 miles), code 1-1-1, to 7,500 km (5000 miles), code 1-1-2. Tables/Charts

Procedure:
- Go to DTM 5.
- Enter the code for the service parameter you want. In this case, 1-3-1.

Read off the code in memory.
In this example, 1-1-1 means 5,000 km (2500 miles).
- Press button 6 times in 30 seconds to access DTM 6.
- Now enter new code 1-1-2 for 7,500 km (5000 miles).

The LED will now repeat the codes you entered to let you check that you got them right. It is a good idea to note them down.
- When the LED comes on and stays on, confirm the entry by pressing the button and holding it down for more than 5 seconds.
- Release button. LED will go out.
