Oil Checking and Changing

1. Remove drain plug from transmission pan, then allow fluid to drain into suitable container.
2. Install drain plug and torque to 15 ft. lbs.
3. Remove upper fluid cooler pipe from cooler. Always use a spanner wrench to prevent movement of hexagonal coupling.
4. Install fitting part No. 5175. Use nipple and seals from special tool part No. 5320.
5. Install transparent plastic hose to fitting, then place container under hose to catch fluid.
6. Apply handbrake and put gear selector in Park.
7. Add 4 quarts of fluid as follows:
a. Add 2 quarts of fluid to transmission, then start and idle engine.
b. Stop engine when bubbles appear in tubing.
c. Add another 2 quarts of fluid to transmission, then start and idle engine again.
d. Stop engine when bubbles appear in tubing.
e. Remove nipple and fitting from cooler, then reconnect pipe to cooler.
8. Add another 2.3 quarts of fluid to transmission.
9. Apply handbrake, then start and idle engine.
10. Move gear selector through all positions, pausing 5 seconds in each position.
11. Move gear selector back to Park and wait about 2 minutes before checking fluid level.
12. Top off fluid, if necessary.
