Replacement of torque control arm bushing
Applies to turbocharged engines:
Corrective actions for turbocharged engines model year 1995 and later and older modified turbocharged engines.
- Remove nut of bracket (A) on the charge air pipe by torque control arm.
- Slacken off clamp screw (B) slightly.
- Move the bracket to one side to release it from the torque control arm. Allow bracket to remain on pipe.
Unmodified turbocharged engine have a different routing for the charge air pipe to that shown, see Service Manual: Section 2(20-22, 25-26) Engines B5204, B5234, B5252, B5254, 850 1992- section AH10. When installing in this case, see section AH29.
- Remove upper clamp (C) from hose at turbocharger (TC).
- Slacken off the charge air pipe (D) see illustration.
NOTE!
Cover turbocharger outlet when charge air pipe has been removed so that foreign bodies cannot fall into the outlet!
- Disconnect ignition cable from the holder on the reverse of air cleaner (ACL) cover.
- Remove and position cover (E) as far forward as possible.
Applies to all types including turbo models:
- Remove screw from upper torque control arm mounting on motor.
- Fold up and position torque control bracket above the torque control arm bushing bracket.
- Take out the hydraulic pump marked 5576-7 and puller cylinder marked 5575-9.
- Install connecting rod marked 5584-1 in the puller cylinder. (The hydraulic pump and the puller cylinder are described in Special Tools Bulletin no. 96).
Applies to turbo models:
- Press the bushing out of the bracket with press tool marked 5668-4 respectively 5668-1.
Applies to all cars with naturally aspirated engines:
- Press the bushing out of the bracket with press tool marked 5668 respectively 5668-1.
Installing new bushing for torque control arm
Location of bushing:
- Install bushing loosely with arrow (G) opposite the recess (H) in the torque control arm bracket.
Pressing in bushing
Cars with turbocharged engines:
- Use press tool marked 5668-4 and 5668-3 respectively.
- Press until bushing is properly centered in bracket.
Cars with naturally aspirated engines:
- Use sleeve marked 5568-2 with press tool marked 5668 and 5668-3 respectively.
- Press until bushing is properly centered in bracket.
Installing torque control arm
Applies to all engine types:
- Reinstall the torque control arm. Use new screw (D).
- Tighten nut (D) to 35 Nm + 90° (26 ft.lbs. + 90°)
NOTE!
New screw and nut should be used.
Screw M10x80 P/N 968808-6
Nut M10 P/N 971098-9
Applies to turbocharged engines:
- Clean oil from between hose and charge air pipe.
- Remove cover from turbocharger (TC) outlet.
Important!
Remove cover.
- Install charge air pipe in the hose on charge air pipe, at (C).
- Install hose clamp a few millimeters onto the hose, see arrow in illustration.
- Position hose clamp screw in line with the car with the head facing backwards into the engine compartment, as illustrated.
- Tighten hose clamp in correct position at turbocharger (TC) as follows.
Applies to all engine types:
Install:
- bracket on mounting at torque control arm.
- nut for bracket, tighten to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.)
- tighten clamp on charge air pipe.
NOTE!
Check that the charge air pipe is in the torque control arm mounting which should cover the white mark.
Install:
- cover over air cleaner (ACL).
- ignition cables in the holders on the rear edge of air cleaner (ACL) cover.
