DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

A fault can occur in two ways, Intermittently or Permanently.

^ An Intermittent Fault is defined as a fault which is temporary and, in certain cases, recurrent.

^ A Permanent Fault is one which is present continuously.

For diagnostic system faults (with the exception of a faulty knock sensor (KS) signal or engine control module (ECM) knock control circuit) the engine control module will re-adopt the correct value of a previously faulty or missing signal once the signal has been restored, rather than continuing to use a fixed substitute value. In the case of output signals, however, the engine must have been switched off. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) remains stored in the engine control module for some time.
