Improved ventilation and defrosting

Condensation on the side windows can be reduced by installing revised air outlets in the rear side panels. Ensure there are no water leaks into the passenger compartment before beginning.





Required P/Ns:

Installing air vent
Only 855

Remove rear side panels

See Service Manual TP 8201201 Section 8 (82-86, 88) Interior, exterior, 850 1992-, section T8.





Mark up the back of the panels and cut out a hole as illustrated.





Modify the air vent as illustrated

Left air vent, P/N 3207240-7

Right air vent, P/N 3207241-5

Cut away the shaded section.

Install:





- Air vent in the panel (angled end to the rear).

- Secure the vent with clips, P/N 3121356-4 (5 per air vent).

- Side panels.

Seal the passenger compartment against moisture
Both 854 and 855

Replacing footrest nut

Remove:





- the footplate, by carefully sliding it down and then pulling it out.

Note:
The new nuts have been introduced into production as from chassis no.

Fold back the mat and insulation.

Remove:





- the footplate bracket (2 screws)

- the two nuts (arrowed).

Install:

- new nuts, P/N 8143420-1

- footplate bracket

- insulation mats

- footplate.

Sealing the lower windshield molding Remove:

- drainage channel

- molding between the windshield and drainage channel





Drill a hole (A) in the molding, diameter 3 mm (1/8"), as illustrated.

The hole should start from the bottom of the windshield groove and end at the rear side of the molding.

Drill the hole 500 mm (19-1/2") from the end of the molding, measured from the passenger side of the car.

Pull the thread out of the butyl tape and shape the butyl tape into a bead the same thickness as the windshield or drainage channel (approx. 3-4 mm, 1/8" - 5/32").

Install:





- a 470 mm (18-1/2") bead of butyl tape on the lower edge of the windshield

- a 470 mm (18-1/2") bead of butyl tape on the upper edge of the drainage channel.

Install the butyl tape on the windshield and drainage channel so that the start of the butyl tape is at the end of the molding.

Note:
Ensure that the hole in the molding is not covered with butyl tape.

Remove:

- old (short) seal.

Install:





- new extended seal, P/N 9173292-5, as illustrated. If the bodywork surface is uneven: seal with butyl tape.

Install the seal tight against the inside of the body flange and with a 10 mm (25/64") overlap.

The extended seal has been introduced into production as from chassis no.

Reinstall:

- molding

- drainage channel
