B. Replacing Fuel Filter
BA1Preparations for draining fuel system
Release fuel pressure
Remove throttle pulley cover.
Remove valve cap on fuel rail.
Connect a fuel pressure adapter hose J-41O31-A and drain into gas buggy.
Start fuel draining pump.

Remove hatches in luggage compartment
Connect venting hose
Expose hatches in luggage compartment.
Remove screws and panel.
Remove plate with connectors.
Use a screwdriver. Put plate to one side without disconnecting connectors.
Remove nuts and open both hatches.
Remove valve cap on fuel line.
Connect venting hose 999 5480-2.

Pump fuel out of the fuel filter and fuel line and then remove filter holder.
Remove:
- Fuel line connectors on fuel filter. Pull connector sleeve to release fuel line.
- Fuel filter screw.
Open clamp but do not remove screw. The filter can be pushed out of the holder.
Leave the filter in the holder as it is replaced from below.

Replace fuel filter
Raise the car:
- Raise the car and remove fuel filter.
- Place a new fuel filter in the holder.
- Lower the car.

Connect fuel lines
Install:
- Fuel filter in correct position and tighten holder screw.
- Fuel lines.
Press fuel line connectors into place and check that they lock by pulling the fuel line from side to side.
Disconnect venting hose 999 5480-2.
Screw on valve cap.

Reinstall components in engine compartment
Remove fuel draining unit
- Disconnect the fuel draining unit from fuel line.
Install:
- Valve cap on fuel rail.
- Throttle pulley cover.

Check
Start engine for leak test:
Start the engine and check that there is no fuel leakage.
Rev the engine to ensure that air is not sucked into the fuel system causing operating problems.
Reinstall hatches in luggage compartment.
Install wiring in rubber grommet so that the yellow tape marking is on the inside.
Install plate with connectors.
Reinstall components in luggage compartment floor.
