All-wheel drive (AWD) Fuel injection system

New saddle type fuel tank P/N 9161104-6 with two [1][2]fuel level sensor integrated with a pump and ejector unit.

Design and Function

^ The saddle type fuel tank has a volume of 70 liters (18.5 gallon).

^ It is located in front of the rear axle.

^ The fuel tank is secured by two retaining strap mounted in the rear axle member with two screws at the front.

^ The fuel tank consists of two halves with place in the middle for the torque tube with viscous coupling and exhaust pipe.

^ In the right half of the tank is the electrical fuel pump (FP) with a level sensor for the right half of the tank.

^ In the left half of the tank is an ejector unit driven by the return fuel from the engine and transfers fuel to the right half of the tank.

This unit has a level sensor for the left half of the tank connected in series to the level sensor in the right half of the tank.

^ There is a 4 liter (1.06 gallon) expansion tank located above the final drive.

^ The fuel filter with bleed valve is located to the right of the expansion tank and is accessible through two hatches in the luggage compartment.

^ The roll-over valve is mounted on a bracket beside the fuel filter.

^ Fuel pump (FP), level sensor and ABS wiring connectors are accessible in the luggage compartment.

^ The fuel filler pipe empties into the fuel tank through a check valve that minimizes fuel spillage and overfilling. This check valve means that fuel cannot be siphoned out of the fuel tank via the fuel filler pipe.

^ The roto-jet fuel pump (FP) provides a fuel pressure of 3 bar (43.5 pounds per square inch), and a flow of 3.16 liters (0.835 gallon) per minute.

^ Total resistance for the level sensors when the fuel tank is full 10 +/- 5 ohms, and when the fuel tank is empty: 327 ohms (maximum 330 ohms).
