Control Module: Service and Repair

IMPORTANT: When transferring the Transmission Control Module (TCM) between different cars be sure to make a note of any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) before removing the TCM from the car.





1. Turn off the ignition before removing the TCM from the car. Remove soundproofing panel under instrument panel on driver's side.

NOTE: Always check that the pins and sockets in the control module and its connector are not damaged and that they have not been pushed out of position. Damaged or loose pins or sockets can cause a malfunction.





2. Remove TCM
Press striker plate on bracket. The illustration shows the location of the TCM on left-hand drive cars. On right-hand drive cars the TCM is located on the pedal mounting.





3. Remove the connector.
Remove connector by pulling out the catch. Then carefully free the connector from the control module.
Check that cable connections to the connector are OK.
Check the control module connector.





4. Connect the connector to the new control module.
Ensure that connector lock tabs engage securely.





5. Install control module on bracket
Make sure that the locking tab on top of the bracket and the mounting on the lower edge engage the flange on the control module. The illustration shows a left-hand drive installation.

NOTE: Ensure that the cables are not taut

- Preparation:
- Ignition ON.
- Read off and erase DTCs.





6. Install sound insulation panel.





7. Adaptation of the Throttle Position (TP) signal.

NOTE: The TP sensor signal must be adapted whenever a new control module is installed.

- Block all four wheels
- Start the engine.

CAUTION: Apply parking brake and press down hard on the brake pedal with left foot throughout the procedure.

- Gear selector to position D Fully depress the Accelerator Pedal (AP) so the kickdown switch closes.





- Keep AP fully depressed for max 5 seconds
- Release the AP and move the gearshift selector to position P. The TP sensor signal is now adapted to the new TCM.
