Removal and Replacement






Replacing power steering pump

Special tools:
999 5443 999 5443
999 5444 PRESS TOOL 999 5444 Press Tool

Removal

Drain approximately 3 liters of coolant




The cock is on the left-hand side under the radiator.

Remove radiator hose from thermostat housing

Remove:
- oil hose holder from dip stick
- cold air inlet hose to central control module.

Remove drive belt from the pump
Use a 3/8" interlock or bar to take load off the automatic tensioner. Remove drive belt.

Remove screw and spacer pipe for the splash guard






Slacken off the pressure pipe connection 1/4 turn

Undo lower mounting nuts a few turns

Remove the mounting screws for the pump:
- 3 x through the pulley holes
- 2 x on left-hand side.

Lift pump straight up




Use a small container to collect oil spillage.

Remove the pressure hose from the pump. Remove the old O-ring.

Carefully cut the return pipe a little way.

Note! The hose should not be cut behind the marker line on the pipe end. Be careful with the reservoir terminals.

Raise the front suspension so that wheels hang free. Turn the steering from lock to lock. Collect fluid spillage from pressure and return hoses. Use a container. Ensure that no fluid drips into the generator (GEN).

Secure pump in a vise






Remove pulley




Use puller 999 5443 999 5443.

Assembling

Install pulley. Lubricate pump shaft with oil
Use press tool 999 5444 PRESS TOOL 999 5444 Press Tool.

Caution! If not replacing reservoir, continue to Installation.

Replacing reservoir

Remove holders




Use a pipe wrench and a screwdriver.

Lift up locking catch and remove the O-ring

Assemble reservoir and pump




Use a new O-ring.

Ensure that the locking catches go into position when assembling.

Installation

Install pump




Put paper over the generator (GEN). There may be oil left in the pump.

Install the five mounting screws. Tighten to 25 Nm .
Install screw and spacer pipe for the splash guard. Tighten to 25 Nm .
Tighten lower mounting to 25 Nm .

Install:
- return and pressure pipe. Use a new o-ring on the pressure pipe
- the hose bracket for the servo hoses in the dip stick
- radiator hose.

Install:




- pump drive belt
- cold air inlet hose to central control module.

Top up coolant

Fill power steering reservoir with fluid and bleed system
See technical specifications for oil type Steering Steering.
Turn steering wheel repeatedly from lock to lock. Top up oil if necessary.
Lower the car.
Apply parking brake. Start engine.
Check fluid level while bleeding system as described below.
•A. Turn steering wheel slowly to right and hold in limit position for 10 seconds.
• B. Turn steering wheel slowly to left and hold in limit position for 10 seconds
Repeated steps A and B 20 times. Move car after 10 times to avoid damage to tires.
