Replacement of components and adjusting friction screw on steering wheel adjuster

Special tools:
999 8081 TORQUE GAUGE 0-6 Nm 999 8081 Torque Gauge 0-6 Nm

Note! The steering column must be removed to replace steering wheel adjuster components. See and for the description of removing and installing the steering column. Adjusting the friction only.

Remove nut and dismantle adjuster components






Replace damaged and worn components






Commence reassembly by installing springs and bracket, together with inner washers






Install lever sleeve, bolt, friction washers, bearing washers and bearing. Tighten nut carefully






Adjust friction




Adjust friction using nut on other side of steering column.

Use torque wrench 999 8081 TORQUE GAUGE 0-6 Nm 999 8081 Torque Gauge 0-6 Nm and a 10 mm hex socket. Torque should be 2.6-2.8 Nm (1.91-2.06 lb.ft).

Mount lever on bracket




Lever should be in position shown when adjuster is released. If position is different, turn lever counterclockwise to correct position.

Caution! Adjuster must be mounted on steering column when column is installed in car.
